tattoos and piercings -Courtney has both ears pierced at the lobe, and the top of her right ear is also pierced. She got a piercing just above her top lip on the left hand side on her sixteenth birthday, but she doesn't always wear this, whereas earrings are an every day accessory. Despite wanting her nose pierced, she's never actually gone through with this - although she hopes to at some point in the future. Courtney has several tattoos, all of them done by friends - her first name, written in flowing black script on the outside of her lower left arm; a love heart on the top of her right arm; four punk stars on her lower right arm, and the Green Day heart grenade on her front, just below her left shoulder. She's planning on getting more done, but it's not easy for her, since she doesn't have the money, and she's not old enough to get them done in a real tattoo parlour without an adult with her.
distinguishing features -Courtney would probably cite her eyes as her favourite feature. She tends to outline them in a lot of eyeshadow, mascara and Kohl to make them stand out more - they are a blue-grey shade and are definitely her most striking feature. Courtney has also always liked her hair. Yes, she has bad hair days like everyone else, but she's one of those rare people whose hair actually seems to obey her the majority of the time. If she wants it to be straight, it'll straighten; if she wants it to be wavy, it'll do so without turning into an unmanageable mess. She's constantly changing her hair style - and sometimes the colour - and she's always been happy with it. However, Courtney isn't really one of those girls who constantly fusses over her appearance - yes, she likes to look nice, but she knows that she isn't overweight and she's more or less happy with the way she looks. That isn't vain - it's just honest. Courtney doesn't see it as a fault that she's confident about the way she looks - confident, that is, until it comes to being around a certain person who she hopes to impress. Then she starts to find endless faults with herself.
physical flaws -The first thing that Courtney would find fault with is her height. At 5'2", she feels absolutely tiny, and she'd love to be a bit taller - which is probably why she likes such high heels when she's not in her battered Converse. Apart from that, she hates the fact that she never seems to tan. Nothing works - she finds it impossible to get a natural tan, and store-bought products just turn her orange and streaky, so she's learned her lesson the hard way about those and has come to accept the fact that she's never going to be anything other than an almost ghostly white shade. She also hates her lips; she's always found them too big for her face. Apart from that, though, she's more or less happy with what she sees in the mirror.
personal style -Courtney's style doesn't tend to be one fixed thing. She lacks the money to buy herself anything extremely nice, and her fashion sense seems to be split into two different personalities. There's the girl who'll roll out of bed, drag on the same pair of jeans she's been wearing all week with her battered Converse; then there's the one who'll spend hours obsessing over her outfit, changing clothes again and again and doing her best to look as nice as she can.
It's funny that that side seems to come out more on the days when she'll be seeing a certain Jimmy Armstrong.
There's also a side to Courtney that likes anything bizarre as far as clothes are concerned. She'll go for things that are retro or vintage or just out of the ordinary, and she tends to suit things like this.
youfeellikeheavenwhenwetouch.
likes -[/blockquote]vintage clothes; drawing; alcohol; drugs; writing; her friends; the rain; starry nights; city lights; trusting someone; Jimmy Armstrong; autumn; winter; snow; hot chocolate; tea; coffee; snuggling up warm; fireworks; feeling safe; feeling dangerous; holding hands; the sea; big cities; feeling wanted; reading; horror films; excitement; people who make her laugh; parties; nights out; getting up early; sleeping in; Green Day; Converse; high heels; cigarettes; sleeping somewhere that isn't at home; kissing; falling in love
dislikes -her family; being alone; feeling unwanted; hangovers; throwing up; sleepless nights; nightmares; people laughing at her; feeling vulnerable; being let down; people who have their head in the clouds; schoolwork; homework; coursework; Disney bands; dogs; cats; babies; small children; maths; science; fake people; lies; cowards; being bored; having nothing to do; when it's too hot; summer; spring; anything orange-flavoured; vanilla; people who have nothing interesting to say; white wine; action films; her brother; computers; having no one to talk to; boys who wear cheap aftershave; sports; realizing she's wrong
strengths -One of Courtney's strengths is the fact that she's down to earth. She hates people who float around with their head in the clouds - as far as she's concerned, life isn't all rainbows and candyfloss, and she's a pretty good judge of character. She can usually work someone out very quickly - unless, of course, the person she's tryint to figure out is someone who she's completely besotted with.
Another of her strengths is her intelligence. Courtney has always been very clever, no matter how hard she might try to hide it now, and once upon a time she could easily pass every single test set to her with flying colours - even maths and science, both of which she hates with a passion. Courtney has always been extremely creative; she loves reading and writing and is a very good artist.
Finally, she's very loyal and trustworthy - tell her anything, and she'll do her very best to keep it a secret, and she'd never betray someone by cheating on them or anything like that. If she did it as a drunken mistake, she'd admit it straight away, probably in floods of tears.
weaknesses -Courtney is probably too honest. Her blunt attitude gets on quite a lot of people's nerves, since if she doesn't like someone, she'll tell them straight away. She has no time for people who she deems pathetic and simply won't talk to them. However, she's not bitchy in the same way that many other girls are - she won't spread rumours or talk about people behind their back. She'll just tell them straight to their face what she thinks of thim.
Another of her weaknesses is that she's far too easily influenced. Even though she knows her own mind, she'll lose sight of that if someone - particularly someone she likes as more than a friend - offers her something that she knows she shouldn't take, or tells her to do something that she knows she'll regret.
Courtney can also be very clingy. Years of feeling unwanted means that when she latches onto someone, she really latches onto them, and even if she knows that they're stabbing her in the back, she'll cling to them and pretend she doesn't know, just so that she doesn't have to lose them. This can make her easy to manipulate - turning her into exactly the sort of person that she hates.
Finally, Courtney can also be a little too innocent and trusting about things, which can lead her into nasty situations.
fears -Courtney's fears are all to do with losing somebody close to her. She's terrified of overdosing, or a friend overdosing, and she's also afraid of being alone for the rest of her life. These fears of abandonment and loneliness make her extremely clingy and she'd do anything to prevent herself from losing someone - even going so far as to lie to herself about them.
secret -My secret probably sounds really petty when you first hear it. "My parents love my sick brother more than they love me" - God. It sounds like I'm some spoilt brat. But that's not the way it is, because it's not really anything to do with my brother being sick. My half brother. I'm the mistake from a failed relationship when my mum was sixteen; he's the perfect son that she had with her new husband, and I've always been the rejected one ever since he was born. His illness has only made things worse, and for the past two years I've been finding comfort elsewhere.
overall personality -Courtney Scott went from being the shy little girl who barely spoke a word to the total rebel that she is today with barely any effort at all. The pent-up anger had been there since she was nine, and after six years of keeping it stored inside her, when she let it out, it changed her completely. Although she's very intelligent, she hides it, because she's learned her lesson about what people do to others who are deemed 'too clever' - she still has the scars from that time she was followed home and pushed over again and again and had things thrown at her.
From barely saying a word to anyone, Courtney now doesn't give a shit about speaking her mind. She'll tell someone exactly what she thinks of them without a flicker of hesitation, and this can make her a lot of enemies, since a lot of the time what she thinks can be very negative and scornful - and she scorns a hell of a lot of people. She has no time at all for those who she thinks are pathetic - people who cut themselves, people who whine constantly over nothing; people who are too afraid to try something new; people who don't drink ... the list goes on for a long time. She's given up on keeping herself to herself and she now aims to be as loud as possible, especially when she's drunk; she wants to set the world on fire.
This dangerous, rebellious side is the only one that Courtney ever allows people to see these days. The clever little girl who liked to write stories and draw pictures and snuggle up with a cup of hot chocolate is firmly hidden inside her - but it's this side that makes her so clingy. Rejected since the age of nine, she's desperately searching for anyone who can give her the emotional comfort that she's looking for, and she'd do literally anything to keep that person with her once she found them. She doesn't think that she could cope if she was rejected again; she'd probably just try her hardest to be blind to it, since that's so much easier than admitting the truth to herself.
This desperate, vulnerable side to Courtney would only be visible to someone who was extremely close to her, however. Most of the time, she's cold, sharp-tongued, and has a serious attitude; she's come to love the thrill of danger and excitement, and deliberately associates herself with people she deems have those qualities as part of their personality. She wanted to be a rebel, and with the drugs and the drink and everything else, that's exactly what she's become.

history -Courtney Scott was a mistake from the moment she was conceived. Her dad didn't stick around long enough to learn that she even existed, and her sixteen year old mother was forced to raise her alone. Even so, Courtney found that she was doted on for the first eight years of her life. Everyone agreed that she was an adorable little girl; naturally intelligent, but painfully shy, and very pretty. She excelled at school, and she made her mum proud - but she didn't realize that the only reason she got all the attention was because her mum was lonely and had no one else. How could she know that? She was only eight, and all she had ever known was her mum's undivided attention.
And then things changed. Her mum met someone else, and within a year they were married, Courtney's surname had changed and her mother was pregnant. Slowly, over the course of the following nine months, Courtney found herself being shunted sideways as other concerns took over - and then Daniel was born, and everyone forgot about her altogether. She had suddenly gone from being the centre of her mother's world to being treated like exactly what she was: a mistake. At nine years old, it was a crippling blow, and made even worse by the fact that she had to watch her little brother getting all of the attention that had once been hers.
At first, Courtney thought that maybe doing even better at school would be the way forward. If she got really good marks on all her work, then surely her mum would be proud? It was all to no avail, though - she could bring home work that was getting full marks, work that she was extremely proud of, and her mum barely glanced at it. Courtney simply tried harder and harder, but this started leading to problems in school - by the time she was fourteen, she was the geeky little kid who sat at the back of the room, too shy to speak to anyone and getting full marks on everything she did. A campaign of vicious bullying left her in tears every single night, and her mum didn't even notice.
It was in her fifteenth year that she decided that things had to change. The bullies followed her home from school, throwing things at her and calling her names, and she was in hysterics by the time she walked through the front door. Her mum was in the kitchen, but she didn't even come out to see what was wrong - and that was when Courtney gave up. She stopped caring about her work, the marks slipped, and she started hitting back when anyone tried to have a go at her. She discovered drugs six months later, and the calm relief they gave her was enough to reinvent her completely, into someone who no longer gave a shit whether her mother had any time for her.
Just before she turned sixteen, her brother was diagnosed with a disease that her parents might have been able to afford treatment for, if her step dad hadn't just lost his job. Lots of arguments followed, and then a job opportunity came up in Boswyth Bay, England, a whole country apart from their home, but with a massive pay rise - a way to afford treatment for Daniel, and, for Courtney, it was a whole new start, away from those bullies completely. As soon as they arrived on her sixteenth birthday, she integrated herself into the group of people that she wanted to be like - and that was when she met Jimmy Armstrong. He was eighteen, and intimidating, and good-looking, and Courtney fell for him immediately. Not having the courage to flirt with him directly, though, she went out with a few other guys - never going further than kissing - and gradually growing closer and closer to Jimmy.
After a year of knowing him, she is completely besotted, and whilst her parents continue to flap about her brother, and pay no attention to the fact that she's completely failing in school and that her entire life has gone off the rails, she's finally feeling hopeful that Jimmy feels the same way back. She'd give anything to go out with him, and despite the fact that she's never been brave enough to sleep with the other guys, she'd do anything Jimmy wanted her to, just so she could be with him. She's terrified of being alone for the rest of her life, and whilst a part of her knows that Jimmy's not going to be faithful, there's another side that doesn't care - all Courtney wants is to be Jimmy's girl.

It was the last thing Josh had expected. Kiss her? He couldn't imagine anything worse; but he knew that he couldn't back out, so he got slowly to his feet and tried to remember how to do this. He'd seen his dad kissing his mum, and a few weeks ago he and his cousin Alex had been babysat by Alex's big sister, and she'd watched some silly film where the man had kissed the girl at the end and everybody cried. He and Alex had been bored out of their minds, and had only survived by sneaking drinks from his big sister's can of coke, which they were only really allowed on special occasions. That was all the experience Josh had to draw from for this, though, so he thought back to what he had seen and tried not to think about stuff other boys from school had said. Ryan McGuiness swore that kissing girls gave you a disease, and whilst Josh didn't necessarily believe that, he was sure that nothing good could come of it. He knew he'd never want to kiss a girl; the very thought made him feel all shivery and disgusted, because he was more interested in football and computer games and watching T.V. But what if he kissed Addie and got trapped in some spiral of wanting to kiss girls? Oh God; what if he liked it? The very thought disgusted him.
Well, he couldn't back out of it now. He remembered from the film that the man had had his arms around the girl, but he wasn't going to do that with Addie, because that would just make it weirder. In fact, he was going to put his hands behind his back, just in case she wanted to do something weird like hold his hand or anything like that. He stepped closer to her, and then closer still, so that he could count all the colours in her eyes. She was grinning a little bit, and he could feel his heart beating hard, because this was so gross. But he had to do it. He was a lot taller than Addie, and their noses were in the way, until he realized he'd have to tilt his head to make it work properly. He decided to close his eyes, because that might make it easier, and then he awkwardly leaned forwards and tried to kiss her lips.
